Remorseful villainess Sarah Griffin
Sarah Griffin (Carol Starks) is a remorseful villainess from "Romans Ruined," episode 11.06 of New Tricks (airdate 22 September 2014). She is the estranged wife of UCOS member Danny Griffin, and the mother of their only daughter, Holly Griffin.
As Danny revealed in separate scenes to DCI Sasha Miller and forensic scientist Fiona Kennedy, the latter of whom Danny became sweet on during UCOS' investigation in the 2008 death of Mark Rix, Sarah had been in a secure psychiatric unit for several years. Her backstory revealed that she had a neuro-pathological condition, though when Danny first met Sarah, he saw her behavior as her being lively and unpredictable, though as time passed, Danny noticed that Sarah's behavior became more erratic. Sarah became violent at some point before the events, commiting self-harm and even harming Danny on more than one occasion. Danny stated that Sarah was given medication, which either worked or didn't, and sometimes she wouldn't even take them.
In one incident, Sarah attacked Danny's boss at a supermarket, under the delusion that he was trying to molest Holly. When Holly was 13, Sarah turned heel while bathing her--doing so by attempting to drown her in the bath. This was the incident that resulted in Sarah being arrested and committed to a psych unit, and during Danny's request to take personal time off to visit Sarah, he stated that she had never hurt Holly before that incident and that no one believed that she knew what she was doing and that it was Holly she was harming.
Danny later visted his wife afterwards, with Sarah responding to Danny's question about her new medication by stating that it made her see things differently. She spoke fondly to Danny; stating that he was always patient with her while asking about how Holly was, establishing her remorse for her previous actions. Their conversation ended with Sarah telling Danny that he was a good man; knowing how much he tried with her.
